About Me

I'm Lauren Barnard, PhD, a licensed psychologist based in Austin, Texas and the founder of Ocotillo Counseling, PLLC. I hold a doctorate in Counseling Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin, a master's degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Kentucky, and a BA in Psychology from UC Berkeley.

My clinical work centers on two areas: couples therapy and depth-oriented individual therapy for adults.

With couples, I work within the Psychobiological Approach to Couple Therapy (PACT), a model developed by Dr. Stan Tatkin that draws on attachment theory, neuroscience, and the moment-to-moment experience between partners. I take an active, directive role in sessions, intervening in real time rather than simply processing conflict after the fact. My goal is to help couples build a relationship that actually feels secure, not just one that functions better on paper.

In individual therapy, I work from psychodynamic and relational frameworks, attending to the deeper patterns, histories, and ways of making meaning that shape how you move through the world. I integrate attachment theory, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and motivational interviewing depending on what each person needs. This work is unhurried and collaborative. You set the direction, and I bring a genuine, engaged presence to wherever we go.

I'm a PSYPACT provider, authorized to offer telehealth services in approximately 40 states. I work with clients in cities including Denver, Nashville, Scottsdale, and Atlanta, in addition to my in-person practice in Austin.

I work on a private-pay basis. Couples sessions typically range from 90-110 minutes. Individual sessions are 50 minutes. I am able to see clients in person or via Zoom.

My office is located at 6448 East Highway 290, Suite F-108, Austin, TX 78723. I'd love to meet to see if we are a good fit; you can schedule a free 30-minute consultation below.
